With the IIT JEE Main exam just around the corner, you must have pulled up your sleeves and memorized all the last minute concepts. These 15 days in the life of IIT aspirants are undoubtedly crucial, with admit cards placed in the safe, the focus is now on finding shortcuts. Shortcuts for effective time management (which is the ultimate deal-breaker) – less calculation time, less getting hyper time, and most importantly more revision time.
How to manage exam stress
However, the thing that aspirants forget is that Time Management is an art that needs lots of time and practice to master. Still, do not lose hope! As one should never underestimate the power of last minute preparation.
Here are some quick tips to help you glide through the exam with enough revision time by the end.
1. Give time to instructions
Keep dedicated 5 minutes away for reading the instructions carefully. By now you must have practiced enough previous year papers and would know the instructions by heart. Still it is possible that some earlier read points may disappear due to nervousness, so read all the instructions carefully again.
2. Give time to flip through the paper
Before you start answering questions directly, take time to flip through all the questions once. While going through the paper briefly, mark the questions you are comfortable with, and those you are not very sure about. At this point, do not start thinking about the solutions.

3. Don’t get stuck on 1 question
This point is very important, for its probability of occurrence is extremely high. Do not get stuck on the questions you are unsure of. Even if you think you know the answer, but it is taking time, move on. Do not ever give more than 1 minute to thinking about the answers you do not know.
4. Avoid looking at the clock every minute
Allocate time for every section of the paper and while you attempt them, avoid visiting your watch every minute. Fix a number of questions after which you will look at the time. For e.g. look at the watch after every 15 questions (i.e. four times in a paper). Doing this will save time largely and prevent nervous attacks.
5. Use the rough sheet judiciously
A separate rough sheet or rough space is provided in the examination hall. Make sure you divide the paper in four columns according to a set of 15 questions or whichever way suits you. To duck the risk of creating a mess of the rough sheet, it is advisable that you plan the space properly, so use the allotted space only to avoid any confusion. The mental math and tricks you must have learned in coaching will come in handy here. As it would help in saving major rough space, while lowering the chance of copying wrong information in OMR sheet.
6. Take frequent breaks
The ambience of IIT JEE examination hall is that of nervousness and tension. In middle of all of this, it is very important that you keep yourself hydrated. So, after every 15 minutes when you look at the clock, sip a glass of water, look around for some seconds to relax your eye muscles and then get back to work.
It is not easy to attempt questions, think about the answers, calculate, control haste, all in three hours and still get 15 minutes time for revision. For who said getting admission in India’s top Engineering Colleges was supposed to be easy. But with 15 days left, there is still plenty of time for you to practice this essential skill. There are a various little things that you can do to have zero chance of time wastage, for e.g. having all documents ready, keeping extra set of pens and pencils, avoid looking at what others are doing, being hydrated, etc. Now that you know the ways to manage time, go offline and work on them.
All the Best!
